Letter probably written in May, 1777, by Lt. Col. Archibald Lochry to Gen. Edward Hand at Fort Pitt, regarding Lochry's raising of sixty men to protect the settlements of Conemaugh and Kiskiminetas, Pa., following a March 21, 1777, Indian attack in which Andrew Simpson was killed and the brother of Captain Samuel Morehead (Kittaning commandant) was captured.

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776.
